Accumulative pension fund of Gazprom did not protect depositors’ money from inflation

Non-state Gazfond turned out to be the outsider for the last five years. The rating was based on such an indicator as return on pension reserves.
Alas, one of the most popular funds ranked second from the bottom. The yield for the period was just over 13%. At the same time, the accumulated inflation in the country exceeded 44%.
The authors of the rating draw attention to the fact that if pension fund participants put their funds on deposit, they would almost be able to save their funds with a 42% yield.
In 2017, the number of clients of the accumulative pension fund Gazprom exceeded 230 thousand people.
To date, NPF Gazfond is the largest among similar ones. Its main purpose is to form additional pensions for its investors. But the profitability of the organization in 2013 was just over 2%, in 2014 – 1.7. Such a trend was observed throughout the entire accounting period.

Accumulative pension fund of Gazprom attracts funds from companies and individuals

Often the funded pension is part of the social package for employees of companies and organizations, similar to voluntary health insurance. Companies together with their employees become co-investors in the fund. Often the investment between a legal entity and an individual is split in half – the employee pays a ruble and his employer pays the same amount.
Interestingly, when cooperating with funds, organizations may add clauses on minimum returns to their contracts. If the fund receives less income than promised, it has to pay the client more. Experts assume that this condition influenced the fact that the fund of Gazprom showed such a low yield in five years.
The total amount of corporate pensions in the organization exceeds 370 billion rubles. The main client of the NPF is, of course, Gazprom: all of its employees will receive additional funds from the fund when they retire. In 2017, the Russian energy corporation, which is controlled by the state, transferred almost 20 billion rubles to NPF Gazfond.
PJSC Gazprom ranks 17th among the world’s largest companies in the industry (according to S&P Global Platts).
